Topic: The allotment Regents Park London

We were 'in the smoke' yesterday for a hospital visit and a conference and walked through Regents Park between the two locations.  OH spotted 'allotment' on one of the signs and of course we had to check that out.

Very surprising, right in the middle of London, there is an organic demonstration and teaching allotment open to the public.  Allotments are never that inspiring at this time of year, but all the same very interesting.  First was the very benign climate, their rhubarb was out fully and ready to harvest and their autumn sown broad beans were developing flower buds!  They had a good selection of kales and also purple sprouts, leeks, beetroots, carrots, garlic, herbs.  Standouts were rainbow chards in all colours.  And a very nice array of oriental vegetables from choy sum, mitsuna, red mustard to shungiku greens and more. 

Well kept fruit trees and soft fruit bushes and a good compost making display, including various composters and a comfrey liquid 'tube'

Well worth a visit, foc and a real surprise that we stumbled upon by accident.

A good idea to encourage those Londoners with a garden to grow a few vegetables at home.  If they haven't a garden, they can volunteer to help out there.  It's good that they have school trips to the allotment which could inspire the younger generation.

Have walked through Regents Park many times (the rose gardens are lovely) but never happened upon this! Thanks for the info, will check it out next time we are in London.
