Large jacket potato - varieties please
« on: January 04, 2011, 10:05:44 »
As well as my usual Kestrel and other spuds, I am after a potato that is best for large jacket spuds.  What is the best variety to give large jacket spuds.  Thanks.

I have had excellent results with Rooster.

The photo shows an early digging in a dry year. I have had nearly 20 large spuds off one plant.

My Piccasso grew some very large spuds last year which were wonderful baked.  Some were so big that half when cooked made  enough for a serving.   The taste was the best I have tasted.

Cara for me, lots of monsters especially the row that got the majority of the chicken poop as manure.

I'm a Picasso fan as well. (At least, for my soil.) Better flavour than Cara, in my opinion.

Desiree usually do well for me, too.

Desiree evey time - knock off some of the eyes on your seed to leave just a couple and this will produce larger but fewer tubers.

I tried Winston last year, they are earlies but I left them in a bit longer and got a good crop of nice large potatoes.
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴
