Cherry tree runners
« on: December 03, 2017, 15:19:20 »
Got a problem with a cherry tree. Get lots of runners/shoots coming up from a previous prune. Do I take then off, leave a few on or leave them be?

If it's the chop, when would be a good time please?

Thanks
Before you criticise someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Water shoots, which form after heavy running are best pulled off as soon as they are seen.
Since it is too late for that you will have to summer prune them as close to the main branch as possible. You may need to leave some to grow on, to improve the shape of the tree.
