Saw a kestrel for the first time in several years. We have been overrun by red kites who are useless on the vole front, and we have been overrun by them.
Saw it hovering and then down it went like a bomb. I have never been close enough to see just how they manages to land safely on a vole rather than onto their heads.
And not so long after I found two large Barbara butternuts which I had missed, surprised they seemed unaffected by frost. So all in all a very good day.
