Quince recipes anyone?
« on: October 19, 2017, 22:56:56 »
This year has been a bumper year for quinces. I have lots of them but last year all I used them for was an apple and quince chutney (which was lovely!)
Does anyone have any ideas what I could do with them?

Loads of recipes if you google "quince+recipes".  i did last year when our neighbours gave me a bagful.  made lots of jelly which we haven't even started eating but also quince and apple tart and crumbles which were very good.

This was my aunt's special Christmas sweet.  She dried it on top of the wardrobe in their bedroom, and it smelled so good, but nobody was allowed any before Christmas.  It was heavenly.

Try recipes for Membrillo, it is quince cheese a sort of thick marmelade.   In Spain they serve it for breakfast with cheese.

Once had it at a hotel where they were having a posh conference so they had everything  you could think of and more for breakfast.  Membrillo was the star turn.  We had no idea what it was, and it was before wifi so no chance of a quick google.

Are we talking about quince or the japanese flowering Chaenomeles which I find them rather hard to peel.  They add a different flavour will a couple in an apple crumble.

I have both but rarely get a crop from the true quince. I need to take more care of it though.

We are talking of the Chaenomales variety of quince.
