It all comes round again...
« on: October 01, 2017, 22:07:35 »
If you really mean it, it all comes round again.

The allotment has been a bit of a lost cause this year. My Dad was diagnosed with untreatable cancer in February and died in June - thankfully pneumonia got him first, so it was much less nasty for all concerned than it could have been and, sadly, when you get to 86 these things happen.

So all my weekends were spent visiting him, and with living further away and working longer hours my beloved plot fell by the wayside. I've got bits and pieces done, and put a bit of stuff in at the start of July, most of which hasn't done too well - except for the peas which are going like hell at the mo - but nothing like usual. I didn't talk about it a lot with him as he loved his garden - TBH we were hoping we'd find him face-down in his spuds one day, as it was he was out there with stick in one hand and fork in the other the day before he went into hospital for the last time - and he'd have hated thinking that he was keeping me off mine. Any time my parents  visited, a trip to the allotment was a must.

What with pants weather and moving furniture I didn't get a fraction of what I wanted to done today, but I've got enough space dug and cleared of weeds (bumper crop of bindweed, methinks) to get my autumn garlic in for next year. It's started. Seed catalogue porn is arriving, space will be cleared, soil turned, expectations will rise.

 It all comes round again...

That's an uplifting post.  I'm very sorry for your loss and I'm sure you'll miss your dad sorely but how good to realise that the circle of life goes on, in the allotment anyway.

Onwards and upwards.

I am sure that your Dad would be glad to see you back on  your allotment.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my dad this year, too- he was 90 and we were also grateful that he had a peaceful death. I bet you can hear his voice in your ear when you're at the allotment.

Sorry for your loss, Adrian. But every year in the garden is like a new start, I hope the activity will help you.

Thanks, all. I don't hear him, he didn't say a lot unless he needed to, but I certainly feel his presence.

Next weekend is the first blitz... hope St Luke holds!

Heard him all right the other day - I was digging and my line was getting more and more squint, he never could work out how I can't keep a straight edge - and, to be honest, neither can I!
