Fledgling bluetit- what to do?
« on: June 20, 2017, 20:38:41 »
A young bluetit- with wings and feathers but not yet flying, has been on the ground in our garden since yesterday evening. although we have seen an adult coming to feed it, it seems odd the it's out in the open.It was initially in the undergrowth but has been on the lawn all evening today, tweeting away. The RSPB site says t's normal for fledglings to be on the ground before they start flying, but it seems pretty exposed to me. What would you do, if anything?

Do not compromise its parents attention. Try and remain watchful but remote. You might put out a tray of water, all birds struggle to find enough when its like today. A biscuit tin lid is deep enough, or a 10" pot saucer. Not all chicks reach adult hood.

as said water is the key to all birds this time of year I'm away for a week tomorrow so have instructed fellow plot holders to fill my bird baths every day as its been a regular source for them it drying up could be a disaster for the immediate population of which there is more year on year  :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
johhnyc015  may the plot be with you

Sadly I've found it dead on the grass this morning. :( Survival of the fittest, I suppose.

PLEASE leave the little bird as it is. They went to a lot of trouble in spring watch to explain about this , nearly all young birds leave the nest before they are fully fledged. I have lived in the country all my life and have seen this often.
