How to harden off
« on: May 21, 2017, 09:14:45 »
I live in a flat without a balcony. My allotment is 11km from the flat.  I read that to harden off you put small plants out in the day and bring them in at night!!!!
I don’t have a greenhouse and my cold frame is half a window over a raised bed. (The only raised bed).
Any suggestions of how to harden off my small plants?  All suggestions welcome!

Tricky! Could you buy some cheap plastic cloches from Poundland and put them in there, with the ends closed at first then left open after a few days?

Might sound odd, but could you get a couple of strong cardboard boxes weight them down with a brick (or something) put your plants to be hardened off in them at the lotti for a couple of days then the next couple of days take plants out and put back in for the night.  Unless frosts are forecasted in my experience its the wind that does the most damage so protecting them from the wind in this manner would help acclimatise.

Only my take, others will be along with their ideas.
