Stawberries
« on: May 09, 2017, 11:06:25 »
Last year I planted a dedicated strawberry bed, had a few jars of jam out of them. I treated them like I do my flowering perennials and cut them to the ground, then at the first showing of leaves this year gave them a feed of chicken pellets. The result is the strawberry bushes are now strawberry shrubs and are dripping with fruit. Huge green ones at the moment, but only a week away from picking. I did net them early and was worried for a while that the bees would not pollinate them, no worries somebody has 4 hives on the go at the allotments and they got through the mesh.
