Thanks for the thoughts and kind wishes, much appreciated. I know she is only a dog and there are some very bad things happening to people all around. But since she arrived last summer she has made such a big impact in my life (all for the good) it's been awful having her feel so poorly.

Over the last few days she's had lots more tests done and the hospital team in bristol are continually monitoring her and I get a couple of updates a day. From the call this morning it is now looking most likely she has sepsis and they have scheduled surgery for this afternoon. Yesterday they had been very worried about her heart, but currently results show this is fine.

I'm not looking forward to the wait for the next call this evening. I'm trying to send positive vibes to her, but not daring to hope too much.

I know she is only a dog

No such thing as "only a dog"! Anyone who's had a dog knows they are part of the family and you just can't help but love them. And of course you don't want them to suffer.

Presumably if they are operating they know (or suspect) what's causing the sepsis?

My Summer had pyometra (womb infection) which needed emergency surgery and felt extremely sorry for herself. But after she came around from the anaesthetic she looked so much better even with the effects of the operation and she bounced back in just a few weeks. Hopefully Seren can be fixed as easily!

Not really what caused it and it's taken a while for them to be able to narrow it down this far, the organs that are causing concern are spleen and tonsils, they question her ovaries too and will take a look while operating. She wasn't responding to antibiotics but they have added some new ones in which thankfuly do seem to be helping.

Fingers crossed for her then.

Thanks, they are firmly crossed her.

Oh Jay, I have only just seen this and my heart goes out to you.

I hope so much that whatever is wrong with Seren that it is treatable.  I remember how upset we were when Meggie was diagnosed in the hospital at Bath with stomach cancer when she was 12 years old, but your lovely Seren is so young and still a puppy.

I am thinking of you Jay and very much hope that Seren's diagnosis is treatable.  {{{hugs}}}

Thank you for your kind thoughts, it took me years to get over my two previous dogs and they both had had a good innings  Totally agree losing a pet at an older age is bad enough but yes when she is still such a baby....
Lymphoma i think was pretty much at the top of the list at the weekend, but after they got some more results in and did another scan of her spleen to compare, it indicated it was more likely to be infection. I'm really hoping there won't be any more twists.

I've never had a pet but I do understand the anxiety of seeing whether human or animal suffering. it's hard when you know you can't do anything at this moment. But at least seren is in good hands. Hopefully you will get her back home soon. Big hug from me too.

Virtual thoughts and hugs are paying off, her op went well and today she is doing well  :icon_cheers:
Her temperature is normal and she has eaten some food. The vet said she is comfortable doing well and they are pleased with her progress  :sunny:

The best news is, if she continues to progress  I should be able to go and collect for the weekend   :grommit:  :toothy4: :wav:

There are still the results to come from the samples they took, which I don't want to think about too much at the moment. The thought of her being well enough to come home is amazing!

She is still doing well and on course to be collected FRIDAY   :sunny:

I've my fingers so tightly crossed.

She is being very good there and is a sweetie with the nurses and vets. She's eaten another meal and they have reduced her painkillers a little as she is 'comfy' , plus they are reducing her glucose drip as her levels are ok.
