feeding garlic?
« on: March 28, 2005, 17:39:06 »
Hi everyone - just got back from a great day on the plot. I'm very excited as the garlic is looking really great. Would a feed of any kind do it more good? or should I just leave it alone?

Thanks,
Sarah.

My winter garlic ( put in in october) I feed with "some"horse manure from March on.
Having free drainage, sandy soil, and putting in compost/ or leaf mould in soil before planting, and having enough nutrient in the soil than I put in every 14 days a light fertilizer, f i a bit manure or liquid manure. I keep the weeds away, very careful by hand and when the soil gets very dry ( when o when will that be?) I water, spec. when the leaves are developing.

Aqui,

Pelleted chicken manure is usually high in nitrogen so I wouldn't give it more - as Tim says potash is the thing use, bone meal it stays around longer than the chemical stuff which leaches out easily

That should be ok, Aqui, unfortunately alliums, cos of their leaves, don't take up much goodness through them. But it will get in through the roots
