installing printer on new computer
« on: February 18, 2016, 20:34:49 »
My children bought me a new computer for Christmas, but unfortunately I am unable to install the printer due to losing the disk.  It is a HP LaserJet P1005.  I am led to believe I can download it from the internet but I tried and it would not download and now I cannot even access HP Support.  Not particularly computer literate so any help/suggestions/where to purchase an installation disk would be much appreciated.  My operating system is Windows 10.

Hi

If you did a Windows 10 upgrade from 7 or 8 you will need to uninstall the drivers already in use.
I found HP will do this first and you need to okay this along with error messages and restarting your computer once or twice.

The best way to install the correct drivers is from the HP Website

http://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/identify?q=LaserJet+P1005&tool=s-002
As I did not know which version of the printer you had I could not go further to get you to the download for the specific printer.

Or you can use the automatic install wizard here
http://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c02681060

NOTE!! you need to watch for allow this to run pop ups and ok them.

I would suggest you use Internet Explorer or another browser rather than the new Edge which might reject installs for security reasons.
