Found this today and thought those of you with Damsons left might like to give it a try! (lucky you!)

Makes one 8inch cake

Pre heat oven to gas 5/190c/375f

4oz soft butter or marg
3oz soft brown sugar
2 eggs lightly beaten
8oz self-raising flour
1lb damsons, stoned and halved
2oz chopped mixed nuts  (Optional)

Cream butter and sugar, till light and fluffy. gradually add eggs, beating well between each addition.
Fold in flour and damsons.
Spoon into a greased and lined 8inch cake tin and sprinkle with nuts.
Bake for 45 mins until firm to the touch . Allow to cool in tin for 10 mins then turn out onto rack to finish cooling.

Just had a freshly baked piece, still as good as when we first made it all those years ago.
Gardening is the great leveller.

Thanks.  I do have a damson crop this year.  Last year's blossom was hammered by a hailstone tornado so we got just 3 fruit.
