Divide spider plants
« on: April 23, 2015, 14:04:43 »
Due to a mistake I have two spider plants in the same pot.  I have divided these before and they died.
I think they died because I cut the entangled roots.  Any ideas on what to do to next time?

Spider plants are one of the first plants I ever grew and propagated. Easiest and best way to make more is by layering the runners like strawberries. Did  try dividing with mixed success. Large divisions often fail unless you leave plentyl of root on. Smaller divisions or offsets/suckers work better, leaving the mother plant relatively undisturbed.s

Timing probably makes a difference to. Probably best done while the plant is inactive growth. So spring or summer then.

Good luck!
