Avocados?

Possible in this country? Anyone done it and got any tips?

 I've just planted one so we'll see what happens

plants - yes. Fruits - no.

I planted a stone last spring. after I'd dropped it on the floor (accidently - but it cracked the casing) and soaked it for a week. It didn't do anything, so after the last frost, I bunged the pot in the garden. A few months later it sprouted. I brought it in before the frosts. It's now about 1ft high.

I'm going to plant a few more this year.

They don't fruit until they are something like 20ft tall. And I don't think they will grow that big in this country.

Told OH about your replies (he's the one that likes to eat them). He suggests we Bonsai it in the greenhouse and put the resulting fruits on coctail sticks!  ;)
