Maybe I am being impatient, but there is no sign of asparagus poking its head up through the soil. This is the third year of the crowns and I am looking forward to the odd harvest this year. When should I be expecting the asparagus to show itself?

I have just had one shoot showing through but unfortunately a slug got the first bite
I was pleased to see a second just below the surface unharmed

Yesterday I saw 3 spears breaking the surface on my established bed. I think the asparagus season has started! No sign on my new bed (3 year old). My plot is on the south coast.

oooh, I want to grow asparagus. Please tell me everything about growing it. Is it easy, how much space do I need, when do I plant it, how do I look after it, etc etc.

Phew. Good to know. Spent a good 5 minutes on my hands and knees this morning examining my asparagus bed, but nothing...then spent a further couple of minutes examining my neighbours asparagus bed, and nothing! I can now sit back leisurely....mind you...slugs you say.... :-\
