What can I sow or plant in September?
« on: September 10, 2014, 09:34:06 »
I've been running behind all year and not really found my growing feet this year, I know garlic and autumn onion set planting time is soon, but what else can I be sowing or planting now?

All the salads will do well now ... lettuce, rocket, mizuna, coriander and the such like.  You could also put in some nasturtiums for winter peppery leaves along with land-cress and maybe some peas for eating pea shoots.

You've probably got time for some winter spinach and if you plant some beetroot you'll have baby beets through the autumn.

Thanks Squeezy, I'm in need of inspiration!
Spinach and beetroot it is and I'll have a rustle through of salady stuff, I think I have some winter gem types lettuce too.

I guess not much sowing and planting going on!

I've sown some beetroot in modules and will try a sowing of early type carrots under a cloche although I'll cover them with netting to start off as it's still warm. I found I've several types of lettuce to sow and fancy some mustards oriental greens.
