Topic: Red Emmalie and Violetta potaotes

If anyone has grown either of these two I’d love to hear your thoughts on them. Both are new to me varieties that I’ll be trying this year, from the description I was hoping they would be longer shaped than the seed potatoes I have.

Not exactly but I have tried Vitelotte blue potatoes and I was rather disappointed. they were not very blight resistant and the resulting potatoes were not even really that nice, rather floury. they store well though!

Same here!

Violetta is described as a salad variety so there may be hope of a nice waxy type, it's got Ratte in it's breeding. But sadly both aren't blight resistant.

Hi a thread close to my heart as I am also trying red emmalies for first time this year (arrived at weekend from skea organics)and will be growing some highland burgundies nearby for comparison which aren't so red.

As for Blues I have grown vitelotte (exceptional but late and poor yield), purple majesty and salad blue (ok but a bit grey on cooking)- think purple majesty is the best blue/purple potato on yield taste and earliest. Let me know how the violettas go ?

Love white and yellow pots too (trying mayan gold and allians too this year)

I found Highland Burgundy a little floury for me and like you say the colour is not so bright.
What shape are your Red Emmalies? Mine are not as long as I thought they would be. I'll try and get a picture of mine later today.

yes Jayb my emmalies are rounder than I expected generally pear shaped - not fingerling but I'm not overly concerned as they look the right colour inside. Maybe the long ones were held back for the table.

The pink fingerling is Hot Dog and the white Snooki and just on the bottom edge is Inky Squid! All grown from True Potato Seed.

any news on these ?- have to report my red emmalies were ok but were'nt fingerling shape and would have preferred them to be more waxy- fantastic colour though.
