Bramble, what potential it has got :)  Don't know what for but it looks quite pretty.

I wish you all the luck with it.

Yo Bramble - I'm a bit fuzzy on the shed thing!  Is that a virtual shed, or is that a potential shed or is that just a post sticking out of the ground?!  ;)

I'd say that, rather like my number 2 plot, yours could be defined as a long term project?  :o

Hi all,

Thanks for your erm... words of encouragement lol.  ;)

Allotment_Chick, it's actually a shed believe it or not. The back half is slightly missing but hopefully the thing is repairable.

Just seen Chloe's new pic - very nice, I hope one day to send an update pic of mine, but give me a couple of years ok  :)

Here in Leeds, if you take on an overgrown plot (no, NOT that overgrown!), you get the first year rent free.

I guess yours might be several years rent free!

Still stunned!  Gavin

I would be inclined in your situation to sleep on it and by this I mean for you to put on some warm clothes and go down your alotty with a sleeping bag. OK I know this seems odd but you can learn alot from the experience and need to test if the plot is good or bad for you. Just before you fall asleep make sure to burry you empty fist in the ground and firm down the soil so it cannot be pull loose during the night.

In the morning excavate your buried hand from the ground and slowly open up your fist and see what you've got. If it's a worm then you've got no worries but if it's a rock you're in for a shock. If your hand is empty then you've used the wrong hand and will have to do it all over again another night.

This is the only sure fire way of testing the ground that I know and important matters of this kind need a scientific approach IMO.

I have already carried out this experiment Ed^. When I awoke the following morning, there was neither a worm nor a stone in my hand, but a bone. After having it checked out, it was definitely of human origin.

Further investigations revealed the bone belonged to a past Sheffield allotments officer. Apparently, when he used to say he was going out "into the field" i.e., checking the allotments, he was infact having it off with a woman who lived to the north of the city.

On the tragic day (for him) that he actually did go out to the allotments (the first time in his career, but he'd argued with his girl) there was an icy wind blowing - it would be a cold night. He found his way in but couldn't find his way out again and the poor sod froze to death.

;D

No, it isn't true, I made the whole thing up in response to Ed^'s rather strange advise  :-/

Pity.  I could think of a few council allotment officers - let's just say we might have benefitted from them going to Sheffield on a fact-finding trip!!!!!!!!!!

Lol - Gavin

the allotments officer sent me to 4 sites in Sheffield Bramble, all were like that.  I couldn't even find one of the sites...(aliens must have beamed it up) Eventually got one on a private site at Geladless Townend its brill.  Mine was overgrown but not a s bad as the council ones.

Hi Lil,

I didn't know there were private sites in Sheffield. Do you know how I can get hold of a list of them?

In reference to your allotment officer and the bone (lol)

its those girls in the north of the city, always leading lotty officers astray...... (I'm from the South of the city.. ;D)
