Right feed for soft fruit
« on: May 04, 2014, 21:19:37 »
I have strawberries growing amongst my raspberries and also in the same bed as my dwarf apple tree (looks nice!).  If I use tomato feed for my strawberries, can it also be used for the companions. Thanks for all the responses

As you can see from the photo below my strawberries and apple trees are in the same bed!

I just feed the bed with with growmore in early spring just as the strawberries start into new growth and that's it for the season.

As you may know growmore is a balanced slow release fertiliser where as tomato feed is a high potash feed which is fed to plants when they are fruiting.

To me using a high potash is a bit of a waste with the other fruit as these mature at a different times

It also means you are giving the different plants potash when they do not need it.

I find that the slow release balanced feed kicks in when needed.

But then again that is  only my opinion.
