Taken over?
« on: January 05, 2014, 04:02:40 »
I just logged onto DT Brown site and when I entered details to receive their newsletter I was directed to Fothegills seeds. Have DT Brown been taken over by them????

Looks like some merging has happen somewhere along the line...but I doubt is very recent.
If you look at the companies registration numbers...they are same, and the registered address more and less same too.

They have been the same for sometime, except that Fothergills had started charging for postage on seeds.

At one time D T Brown was aimed at purely  the commercial grower market then I guess they started Fothergill to sell to the retail market . Over time the boundaries have blurred with D T Brown selling smaller quantities to the retail market now.

A quick look at companies house, and it looks like Fothergills took over D T Brown some time around 2007/2008, although Mr Fothergill has been a director since D T Brown was started in 1994 so they have always been linked in some way.

This is of course based on company records, they could well have been trading for years before they became companies.

Not to be confused with Dobbies garden centres who are part of Tesco.

According to their web site DT Brown started trading over a century ago.
