a4a site problems
« on: December 03, 2013, 09:32:39 »
Is it just me or is this site going a bit flakey. All my other favorites load alright, but this one is slow and sometimes will not even allow me on. Could just be McAfee warning me of the dubious nature of some of the posters :tongue3:

Generally I don't think there is an issue but there have been a number of specific times recently when the site is unavailable - last Sunday for one.  I use http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ to test if it is me or not as sometimes there are local issues.

What I find is odd though is that it is sometimes stressed at a time when the UK is sleeping so how can it be under a heavy load then??

Although I don't know the details often the "server" isn't a real box like say your PC.  Often these servers are virtual and the real physical box can run many different virtual servers.  If the physical box gets stressed then all the virtual servers can suffer.

Also there are other processes to run like backups and reindexing that are often run in quieter times which mayput a load on the server...

Hi,

The old server that hosted the site was no longer able to cope, it all came crashing down yesterday!

So we've moved overnight to a shiny new home, couple of kinks to iron out, but so far it looks all good.

Hopefully we are back on track.

Cheers

Dan
