instant trees
« on: November 13, 2003, 18:58:12 »
Much talk of instant screening. Our need was for instant shade, to replace a 100yr old Bramley. That's it in the foreground. So, a Norwegian Maple - expensive but well worth it - given the summers we've had since.

Since I still don't know how to insert TWO photos, I'll have to show the later one separately.

Year One -

Will we get a picture of it when it's in leaf please? Very impressive anyway.

Btw, on your tomato thread I posted two pictures and it works, why not for you? I skipped two lines between them and pasted the second one. I just hope they stay there and don't pull the disappearing act again.

- do you mean you can 'copy' both photos successively and then 'paste' - 'paste' in the message? - Tim

OK, Ina - here it is just before it coloured - but it wasn't great this year - mainly golden.

And here's a reminder of one of the many colours last year -

Looks like you managed to get two pictures in one posting this time.  If I understood you correctly, you wondered if I copied both pictures and paste one after the other on the message? No, I do one at a time; copy, paste, move cursor and copy, paste.

Thanks for the pictures. Great!

Tim - can you explain what you mean by that remark.....are you referring to cost of the tree in first place or cost of installing the right software to make it possible to post piccies etc.

I'm a bit slow at grasping some things!! ???....H.P.

No. He meant the cost of that lovely shiny machine you can just see the arm of in the background holding the tree.  He probably had a JCB to shift the Bramley and dig the hole.

What it is to be rich!!!!

OK - I come clean - price was no object in regaining our shade - no, the Bramley's still there where it fell - the Maple cost £500, and the hidden, underground bracing another £50. Delivered from Surrey. We dug the 3'x3' x3' hole! And came up with enough Cotswold stone to do a garden wall! Nous ne regrettons rien!! - Tim

PS - rich? - on our pension??
And  this was the 5th mature tree to go in 3 years with honey fungus. Can't live without trees!

- no, I hadn't - age does creep up on one, doesn't it? That's why we (here) both get an extra £50 winter fuel allowance next month - beat that!! - Tim

Trouble is, my wife spends all ours (heating allowance) in Christmas presents for the grandchildren - never offers to contribute any when the oil bill comes in.

- to be fair to the tree, this is a bit better? Difficult to photograph - it needs the sun on it. - Tim
