Topic: another gooseberry problem

Up to a week or so ago a neighbouring plot holder had a fine crop of berries on his  bushes.  Not ripe but looking good.   Now they are covered  in a grey mould.  The leaves look healthy and lush.  Every problem I have look up says the leaves also should be suffering.   Any answers to this please.  He had a good crop last year in which I shared.

It sounds like mildew (American gooseberry mildew).  Goosegogs are very susceptible, though there are resistant varieties.  Botrytis is also a possibility.

Thanks for your reply. I will mention mildew to him.   I don't think he will  be able to harvest them.

It appears he can, but the resultant colour is not attractive.

Good point. I don't think he will want to harvest them.   I looked up the site.  It mentions withered leaves but these plants have healthy green leaves.   But I am sure you are both right.  Thanks again for replies.
