crocus
« on: March 10, 2005, 14:38:13 »
Does anyone know why my crocus haven't opened up? They look really sorry for themselves, its those in pots and in the garden. but the pot ones are the worse must admit

Are they positioned in the sun??  It could be they have not opened because they are in the shade. Not sure though .

What sun? ;D..Maybe its all the snow, wouldn't have thought so though, they've come up in the snow before, but maybe you're right the light levels have seemed very low.

Hi Val,

Here in Herts, we have had a bit of sun for the last 3 days and today it is quite warm ! Very nice.  All our crocuses are open but for some reason, the daffs take some doing - they do look very ready to open though !

Hope yours come up very soon !
 :D

Hi well its the opposite here. The daffs are blooming, I've even got some in a vase, but the poor crocus are just like a lipstick .

Hi Val

I think it most likely is the lack of sun.  My garden only gets direct sunlight in one or two places over the winter and these are the only places where it's worth going crocus because anywhere else they never, ever open up!

BTW Marianne, I'm very envious of your weather today - it's horrible where I am, windy and grey and (now) hailstones!

Cheers, Iain

My crocus have really come into their own over the last few days, altho the ones in the front garden, which is in shade most of the time, are still a few days of.  The daffs on my allotment, full sun, fertile soil, the buds are tight but the ones in the garden have finally burst open today!  My snowdrops have only just opened also!!

Hi Iain,

I am so very sorry you had bad weather today.  We have had sun but today quite a bit of wind.
Wish I could send some of our sun to wherever you live!

Take care !
