This is 2/3 of it. As the 'oldies' will know!!
PS - the 'kno.b.ly bit' in the middle of the first one was just dug today. Next to the invisible Asparagus.

Tim, do you use the mechanical spade, or automatic whatever?
We may be on the trail of a second hand one, somebody has one that he never uses and we hope he will sell it to us. Mr. C. will be able to help with the digging if we have one of those, his back will not allow regular digging and when he tried the automatic one he thinks he can do it with that.
Your veggie plot looks great! I hope you don't have to do it all alone.

I don't think Tim has ever seen a weed taller than 1 cm. they don't live long enough to get any taller.
Zzzzzippppppp, snatch, zzzzzzipppppppppp........what was that? Oh, that's Tim wizzing by snatching all our bigger brothers and sisters up, when we get a bit taller he'll come for us too, sniff sniff.

Much pros & cons, Ina - but I can't live without it. I now have the 4.5hp one & an electric one. Handling the bigger one is not free from hassle.
But this year the land had a treat - all hand dug! Strangely, far fewer weeds at this time than usual.
PS I do agree with a recent comment (Gavin?) that machines fluff up the soil. But if you run them slowly, this can largely be overcome.

Looks fantastic Tim, I wouldn't want to dig that by hand though! :o :o :o So when are you going to start filling it up with lovely stuff?
I haven't been up the plot in weeks thanks to the snow, I bet my weeds are taller than me now!

Good lord. You make me feel like a young, unfit slacker Tim!
We still haven't started breaking up the clay in the veg patch extension. I want to get my spuds in next week, but... oh dear.
I'm put to shame!

Yes Tim, I remember the pictures from last season. I followed your link, the pictures are gone but the thread helped me remember.

Very impressive, and motivating (it's a bit like rotavating, but more strenuous!).
I'm more 'not much done - blinking shed loads to do!' That's the problem with having big plans and small muscles.
Clare.
