Is it time to rescue my lawn?
« on: March 20, 2013, 16:47:21 »
I'm sure I'm not alone.

My lawn is full of moss and spent most of the winter in a rather squelchy state.

I know it needs a good moss kill aerate/ scarify. But is the spring the right time to do it? I'd like to get it looking reasonable for the summer!

The next question is..what time of year to Aldi/Lidl get their bargain sacriffiers in?  As it's going to be a tough job!  :tongue3:

you can scarify/aerate lawns at any time although in my experience the response is generally better in spring as the grass has time to re-establish over the summer before you get to another wet winter. However I would not do it while the lawn is still squelchy as you'll compact the soil by walking over it which may cause it to not freely drain thus encouraging more moss in the wet areas.

can't help on the aldi/lidl questions tho as I do mine the hard way - with a rake and a fork!
