My teasels are sprouting

And I mean on the plant. I've taken a couple of heads off and just covered them in compost. The birds obviously didn't get there soon enough  :happy7:

Never seen that before! Maybe it's a sign of the decline in bird numbers? :(

Hi Manicscousers,

Can you tell me how big teasels grow and what birds they attract - have been thinking of getting one of these for a while

This one is 7' tall, Debs, I grew some from seed a couple of years ago and it threw seed into a small gap in the flagstones so I left it there. I've been told goldfinches eat the seed but the bees loved it before that  :toothy10:
This one has thrown seed into the corner of the carrot bed so it'll be left to grow again because, I love them, too  :happy7:

They're very tall and leggy, so plant them in an out of the way corner where they won't look out of place. They're quite spiky as well.

Teasels are very useful for brushing up knitting also .I have used them a few times in the past.

for more information . . .

http://www.scotiaseeds.co.uk/Arch0611Teasel.php

It appears that teasel self seeds very easily & in most soil types - seed is sown in spring.

Will be putting this on my seed list or plant list for 2013 !!
