onions - when to plant?
« on: January 08, 2013, 19:53:15 »
I'm a bit confused about when to put my onions in the ground. I hear they have a long growing season. would I be right to put some in Feb/March time. I'm an allotment newbie!

Usually early March, weather permitting, but as the seasons go on its harder to judge.

I try to get my shallots in at the end of February and Onions in early March but its up to the weather. One thing with all the rain we`ve had the nutruients would have been leaching out of the soil so before planting a dressing of Growmore about 2 weeks before should help and a sprinkle of Chicken pellets after they been growing about 6 weeks.
