Fuchias and hens
« on: October 17, 2012, 17:43:40 »
Hi folks,
I've just started to keep chickens at my allotment and I am told that a fuchsia hedge nearby is dangerous for them as it is poisonous. Any advice welcomed.
Thanks
Mossy

If you mean about the fuchsia berries..they are perfectly fine..and actually are edible for even humans, they are just not very tasty.
As for the foliage..I don't have no idea if the leaves would be harmfull, but I've never had any problems with chickens eating harmful garden plants. They know what is good and what's not good for them.
Only problem is that they are greedy things and when they find something very appetizing, they can over do it and make themselves ill by over doing it.

Thanks Goodlife, I will err on the side of caution and keep the hens clear of this hedge until I can make 100% sure. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Mossy.
