Author Topic: Ooops! A vegetarian dilemma (Read 3508 times)

Because both my dogs are old and have health problems their appetites are not too good these days. Today I bought some chicken breasts and boiled them with carrots then used the water to cook some brown rice in. I bagged up the chicken and froze it and will add it to their normal dog food every day.

I left the rice in a bowl on the kitchen table to cool.

I was on the phone to a friend and Hubby came home starving, thought the rice was part of his dinner and started eating it. He said it was a bit tasteless but that didn't stop him from eating it.

We are both vegetarian and I just couldn't bring myself to say that it had been cooked in chicken broth. :o

What do you think, should I tell him or not?

What do you think, should I tell him or not? Don't tell..its is too late now anyway. After that meal he propably feels much better..nourished. ;D ;D

Agree with the others, it cannot change anything now he has eaten it it may make him feel guilty.
What the eye dose not see, the heart will not grieve about.

Just do not cook him anymore tasteless rice :P ;D ;D ;D.

When the moment was right I did. I also made his sister an apple pie in the dogs pirex dish but I never told her ;D
I wouldn't dream of doing anything like that today. Must have lost me balls along the way ;D

Years ago a friends boyfriend who was vegan ate some mashed potato her father had made to top his shepherds pie.

After finishing off a huge pile he said it was the best he'd tasted - we didn't have the heart to tell him it had a lot of butter and top of the milk along with the salt, pepper and nutmeg .......

Well at least he thought it tasted good, my husband thought the rice was rubbish (but still carried on eating it!)

Well, if you want to keep a guilty secret from your mate, I always reckon the best way to do it is to advertise your dilemma to x thousand readers on the www and ask their advice? ::) :o ;D ;D ;D

'Sides I'm loving the classic reversal of the old cartoon joke of 'your dinner's in the dog'.........bliss! ::) 8) ;D

Now, seems to me that immediately two things have become clear and need to be rethought......

1) the variety of carrots you're feeding your OH/dogs
2) the sort of rice ditto and cooking time.

I'm assuming that the chicken was free-range and best quality?

A well-fed dog is a happy dog.

I was told once that one of the things that could tempt a vegetarian is the smell of bacon cooking. Is this true? I also heard that the word vegetarian is a native american indian word. When translated it means lousy hunter. ;)
