Purple tomatoes
« on: July 15, 2012, 21:43:16 »
Did anyone see country file tonight? I'm sure they said they were genetically modifying tomatoes by crossing them with snap dragons to make them purple. Apparently there will be lots of health benefits as with all purple veg they contain anti-oxidants.

Interesting. They won't be available for another couple of years. It reminded me of Jayb's thread on blue tomatoes.

I didn't see Country File, but I remember seeing pictures of the purple tomato http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1080695/Purple-super-tomato-fight-cancer.html

Amazing what they can do and it looks really interesting, love the way it is purple throughout although I wouldn't want to grow a GM tomato  :o
Think I'll stick with the ones bred naturally  :)
