walking onions grow flower head..but instead of flowers they develop tiny 'mini' onions..as they grow on and gets heavier, the 'flower' stalk bends over and where the head touches the ground those 'mini' onions root and start growing making more 'mother' onion that will produce babies following year.If not kept under control..walking onion spread=walk all over the place.They are perennial onions.
I think they are a very firm onion Chas, great for pickling I believe & I'm pretty sure that I've them at Kenyons ;D.
