Out into the big wide world

Our latest hatch of chicks are now 3 weeks old, and it's time for them to leave the brooder and go outside into a proper house and run.

Thank you.  These are from our own breeding flock; the first lot were bought-in eggs.  You can't easily tell the sex with Ixworths, so we'll wait and see.

Even the 12-week old ones are only just starting to be obvious.  The boys are starting to make strangulated crowing noises, and have more obvious tail feathers.  It looks as though we have 50/50 boys and girls, so 4 of each.  We'll probably keep our existing thingy, who's a good natured fellow, and so the four girls can go on to be next year's breeding hens, providing they're good specimens.
