Hen dropped dead from fright!
« on: June 20, 2012, 20:27:43 »
Well this was new to me. My best and bossiest girl Anxiety who was looking after the chicks dropped dead today after being hassled by magpies. Poor girl, i checked her over and shes in great condition not a bite on her and plenty of meat and feathers. Read up on it and apparently livers and hearts are delicate in layers especially on a higher protein diet - chick food- and can rupture during a scare.

I'm so sad to lose such a good girl only three, and now have chicks in a box in front room. Poor things couldn't get another girl to do anything but peck them away.

So beware of scares and protein!

That's a bit sad!  :(

I've heard that this can happen, but fortunately I haven't encountered it myself.  Not yet, anyway.

I've certainly known people whose pet rabbits have died from shock after being barked at by a dog.
