I've got some sown in newspaper pots ready to go out in my daughter-in-law's new plot, but just read in a gardening magazine that you should leave it for 5 years before planting sweetcorn in "new" ground because of wireworm.  Does anyone on here have any wisdom on this?

Hi Gwynneth hope you are getting there

This usualy aplies if the ground was previosly grassland not ground that has been cultivated or grass free for a number of seasons

So there's hope then?  The ground in question has just been rough grass. dock and nettles for a good many years, with lots of glass and other rubbish buried in the soil.  It's been dug and cleared, as best I could.  I could always try a small patch and see what happens!

Gwyneth just give the ground a quick turn over it will freeze them to death
