Plant sale - how much would you charge for these?
« on: May 02, 2012, 14:56:21 »
It's our Plant Sale/Cream Tea on May 13th and I've been busy filling up our new greenhouse with plants to (hopefully) sell.

Please would someone give me a rough idea of how much to charge.

I've grown tomatoes, Gardener's Delight, Bangladeshi and Minibel -

I would not sell them for less than 75p each, have a look at what Wilkos, garden centres etc sell them for then go about 50p lower

I wish my toms looked half as strong but sadly I'd say 50p a plant is about right.

Maybe you can stretch it to 75p for the chillis and be prepared to do a little discount for folks buying 6 plants (get a few of those plastic trays they give away in Homebase so folks can have 6 plants for the price of 5).

Good luck - your GH is a dream come true.

We used to give loads to our Horticultural society plant sale but they charged £1 + and often had plants thrown away because they didn't sell  >:(
So now I just give my plants to friends and neighbours.
I think the advice given so far is good,I think you should always aim to undercut what's being charged locally.

I would willingly pay 75p for them, they look well, and healthy, and 6 for the price of 5 is a true bargain, peppers again a little more

I'd go for a quid a pop and see what bites - esp for the chilis.

I just remembers my local garden centre is selling them for £1.50 each and £2.99 for 6 (I think)

Add the price of the packets of seeds together with the price of compost you used, divide the total by how may plants you have, then you have a starting price

Wilkies were 3 for a fiver and they were the same size as yours Betty so £1 would definitely be a bargain.Star off with£1 and see how they go.

Our local garden centre sells good quality plants at 4 for £3. The ones from B&Q and other non specialist places are poor quality and more expensive. £0.50 should see you clearing the lot, Much more than that and you could find you are left with a lot. What were they sold for last year and how well did they do? This should give you an idea of your local market price.

We're doing them for £1.00 each or 6 for £5.00. Same for the peppers etc. We try to keep everything to multiples of 50p or £1.00, saves on change  ;D

We did 50p per plant last year at our plant sale, I'm not sure what our prices are this year yet but I'm guessing they will be the same....we sold an awful lot of plants!
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴
