Yes Teresa they are Flatcoated Retrievers. Completely barmey ::)  I'm glad you recognised them as retrievers.  Many people have never heard of the breed.  One person even asked me if they were 'black red setters' ???  How crazy is that :-/

Well, you did say they are barmy!  Red Setters are completely mad!  However, with those fluffy tails, they certainly could not be just Labs!  They are beautiful!

Am so envious!  Can't have dog here and miss my poor old Yellow Lab so much!

So I'm the stupid one. Always thought labs (black or yellow) were 'labrador retrievers'. As opposed to things like 'golden retrievers' - ours never retrieved anything!

We had some interesting crosses between one of our black labs and our alsatian. Very careless! = Tim

aww shucks  :-[ it's the dress that makes me look elegant there. Normally I'm a jeans (or jods) and t-shirts girl!

Lovely pic Pat - you're dogs are gorgeous. (I'd heard of retrivers - thought they were well known!)

Hi all, glad you like my babies :D

Yes Aquilegia, retrievers on the whle are well known. It is just the Flatcoated Retrievers which I have which are not so well known. Having said that, if any of you watch Crufts you will have noticed a couple of years ago that the Flatcoated Retriever won the Gundog Group and got into the challenge for Best in Show. There are quite a few different kinds of retrievers, golden, labrador, chesapeake bay and the flatcoats.   Oh, don't get me started on dogs or you'll all regret it ::)

Dear Patricia,

Your boys are absolutly beautiful,  My little dog, minnie's boyfriend is a black flatcoat just like yours, he is mental, he charges round my house knocking everything over with his great big tail and slobbering on the sofa, but minnie is potty about him (he's her bit of posh, having breeding and all that) he's called pye,  and everytime i take them both out i get quite jealous as people always say how hansome pye is and don't say anything about my minnie!  you must have fun training them, I cann't get pye to anything other than charge around, i took him down the lotty once with minnie, (minnie always comes with me and behaves impecibly) but pye just pulled me over, and went running all over everyones plot, lead trailing leaving a cloud of dust and freshly planted seeds in his wake, he is canine non grata, down there.  Actually they are lovely dogs and if his owner bothered with him he would be alot better behaved.

Hi Minerva,

I have done obedience training with my boys, but it doesn't stop them being completely scatty at home.  We have had many a coffee swept from the coffee table by a wagging tail :o

I have had some success with showing them though, one of my kitchen walls is covered in rosettes from the shows.  Bobbie (the one on the right) even got a cup for Reserve Best in Show once (that's runner up for those who don't know).  Your little Minnie sounds lovely - we used to have a collie cross labrador called Bess, I often think the cross breeds are hardier than the pedigree dogs - we have spent a fortune lately on Bobbie at the vets trying to sort out a coat problem.   We ought to have a separate thread for talking all things dogs as I think a few are a bit mad on them like me ::) ::)

I have two cats also Richard and would love to see a picture of your cat.  Teresa suggests we continue with her thread on the Wildlife board but what do you think of a board devoted especially to pets - I think it would probably do quite well?

THis is the newest photo I could find of me. Is typical, fat faced, silly hat and eating.

Not bad for a 50+ years old pic with a crease across the middle

I thought it was perhaps time this thread was revived. The profiles threat is so why not this one?

Thing is most/all of the pictures have become red Xs. Anyone care to update their picture?

Heres a new one of me to start us off
