Topic: Mould on seedlings on windowsill?

Why have i got mould growing on the soil of my seedlings? They are on the windowsill in the bedroom and the kitchen, i don't have a greenhouse at the mo.
Is is because they need ventilation? Should i have used chestnut compound?

my alpine strawberries are all dead now >:(
i am using garlic water to water them as it is antifungel but the bedroom stinks!

Wish one could put a finger on it. Never had it so don't know.

Ventilation - yes. Cheshunt? Some folk do it as SOP. I've never used it.

my girls were growing cress on the kitchen windowsill and it got mould on it too.  I put it down to poor ventillation and kept the window above a little bit open and it seemed to clear up.  Not that cress is there very long!

I put a layer of vermiculite (or perlite if I've run out) on the top of the seeds, this seems to help avoid mould. There is mould growing on the sides of my newspaper pots but the seedlings look healthy and unaffected by it.
