Belgians take Armistice Day very seriously but at Ypres, in Flanders, they play the Last Post every day of the year at 8pm at the Menin Gate.  It is incredibly moving on an ordinary day but all the more so on Armistice Day when the old soldiers come out and parade and salute the dead.

If you ever get the chance, do go.     It's not far from the coast, can be done on a detour on your way to or from Calais, and there are all sorts of war memorials to the various allies to visit too.

Obbelix, my niece recently went to Ypres and was so moved by the way in which the fallen are remembered every day. She posted some wonderful photos on Facebook. She also visited other places where my Dad (her Granddad) fought in the first World war.
