When?
« on: October 18, 2011, 12:58:31 »
With the weather as warm as it is I havent yet planted by garlic or onions. Should I wait for colder days or just plant regardless?

I haven't ordered mine yet. Where do people get theirs from? Last year grew it from shop bought garlic but after it split not so sure this time.

If you have it ready plant it out now or when the ground is available. The cold reqirement is to encourage the plant to split into cloves.

I've just planted the last of my garlic. Three varieties from the local market.

Was it normal garlic or specifically for planting?

I save my own best cloves and they've been in nearly a fortnight. Onions went a day or so later. Lets their roots establish before it gets too cold. I'm N. Lincs.so might vary elsewhere.
Broad beans waiting till Feb this year- lost last years in snow etc..

Last lot of my garlic went in today. I'm earlier this year than ever before. Normally I do mine first week in November..but as the weather people.. ::)..have promised cold weather early, I thought is better get them in case they should for once know what they talking about.

Mine arrived in the post yesterday and I will plant tomorrow earlier than usual but as the cold weather is supposed to be early might as well make the most of it.

Ordinary. I've already got a bit of white rot, so there's nothing to lose.

Thanks all. I have some fruit trees to plant this Sunday so I'll do the garlic & onions at the same time.
