Topic: Allotment site histories - can you help?

There is a very brief history of allotments that you can find in the wiki

It includes a section with links to individual allotment site histories. There are currently 44 entries.

It is around this time of year that I usually look for new additions. However, as time goes by it is becoming more difficult and time-consuming for me to unearth new histories by wandering round the web.

If there is a history on the web for your site, and you cannot see it listed in the wiki article, then it would help me if you could let me know of its existence.

The current entries range from roughly 300-400 words upwards. The majority are roughly equivalent to a sheet of A4 with a small number of more detailed pieces.

If your site does not yet have a history then this is where I try to persuade you (or a.n.other on your site) to produce one. It can make for a useful winter activity ... end of sell.

I have managed to locate 9 more site histories which I have added to the wiki.

The one on York's allotment heritage looks particularly interesting.

There are now 53 in the list. As I keep saying .... more would be better. Do let me know if you come across any.

I've just been reading about the York allotments- really interesting as I know quite a few people who have plots in York. ight have guessed good old Mr Rowntree would be behind some of them! Thanks for the link.

As a general comment ... if anybody has a paper copy of an allotment site history but no electronic facilities, eg no access to a website, then I am more than happy to host a scanned version of it on my website for you, dutifully attributed to you / your site and with any necessary copyright information.
