Philadelphus help needed re propagate.
« on: September 24, 2011, 07:38:23 »
I have finally done it.   After years and years of trying I now have one tiny philadelphus rooted cutting with three miniscule leaves.

My question is this, do I try to keep it alive inside through the winter, or do I put it outside for winter to take its course?

I'd be tempted to leave it inside over the winter if it's very small. especially if it's taken a while to get cuttings to take! I'd hate to lose it

I would at least give it frost protection until the weather warms up next spring, perhaps in a cold greenhouse, and then I would keep it in a container for another year so you can give it protection to suit the weather until it gains some size. It would be a shame to lose it now! (unlike branches of fuchsia, forsythia and buddlea which I have used to support  perennial flowers, I now have these shrubs all rooted in entirely the wrong places  ::))
