Put in two sets of tomatoes, three sets of chillies in the peppers class and a pot of jam..
Won and came third in peppers and (amid mutterings of discontent when they realised a man had won it) a first place for my jam.... the first time I've ever made jam and I beat the collective might of a Home Counties village WI..... dead chuffed.....
My award winning jam recipe:
3.2Kg of blackberries
4Kg of jam sugar.
Glass of LBV Port.
Take a sip from the port to steady your nerves, put other half a glass in a massive saucepan with the (washed etc) blackberries. Wave a potato masher through it a couple of times to start the breakdown and turn the heat on medium, start stirring it and keep stirring it till it just starts to boil.
Add the sugar, on a low heat keep stirring it lots until the sugar dissolves (easy enough to see, the gritty texture goes from the liquid.)
Rais heat to high, and keep stirring till the mixture boils, turn down to medium, keep stirring and set timer for four minutes.
Keep stirring while the joil roils for the four minutes, when timer goes off turn off the heat and you can finally take a rest from stirring.
Ladle jam into jars that have been boiled up to sterilise, fit lids and leave somewhere to cool down.....
