I've just noticed this thread and would love to play too  ;D I don't normally grow beefsteak tomatoes, so not exactly competition for you all, but will be fun trying. I've been given the frame for a polytunnel, so if I can work out how it all goes together, I won't need to worry about blight so much  :)

ha, go on, I'll give it a go.  Does it have to be red though as I keep getting blight and having to take mine down while they are still green.

Does it have to be red though  ;D Hah...now that is thought...well I'm ok with unripe fruit...heading is saying 'biggest fruit for fun'.. ;D
And toms come in different colour anyway...
I'm just off for short holiday..but next week I'll start preparations in GH for this..going to start dragging some 'good stuff' from chicken pen into tomato bed to mature over winter... ;)

PL, maybe you could have checked before making doubtful negative comments, without contributing any factual information yourself!  Anyway, I requested and got seeds a few years ago (when parts the website were also out of date  ;D) and I am happy to share seeds from my stash should there be a problem.  I have never grown monsters, but one pound plus is easy, even with leaving several fruits on a plant.

Yes yes yes, But 5lbs thats a whopper!
Last year bc my greenhouse blew down and i only replaced it mid april i planted toms into pretty new manure and hoped for the best. What a suprise it was to have massive gardeners delight as big as any alicante and alicantes as big as beefsteaks.

So im going to sow black russian and maybe marmande in the same this year and see if a giant is born!

Lovely to be thinking about the long hot days of July isnt it.
Good luck

Is everybody still up to the challenge?
Another couple of weeks or so and I'm going to sow my winning giant tomato seeds.. ;) :P :D
As I have so many new tomato varieties to trial this year, I'm going to limit my options to two varieties. I'm sure my winner is either Delicious or Giant Navikova. Those are grown for the competion although I'm growing other beefsteaks too so who knows, perharps something else will bring surprise.

I'm going to try delicious and Giant Belgian........trying hard to limit myself in the number of varieties grown this year, depends of I get my lottie ploytunnel up and running this spring or not....I think I've only got about 25 varieties earmarked for this year so far, that is restrained for me!  ;D
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴
