Just got blightwatch warning
« on: August 14, 2011, 08:59:51 »
GL7,  been very humid here though not much rain.

What a bind so many green toms.  Lets hope nothing happens.

Has anyone got problems with blight yet?

Digeroo, are you eating your Losettos yet and are they nice?

Maybe I have had a touch of blight, maybe not - my outdoor plants have taken a hammering from the wind and cold summer nights but I'm eating Sungold aplenty and about to start picking the others.

Maybe I'll pick what i can this evening then spray.

No blight yet on our site afaik but tis the season I guess.

Bum  :(

I noticed a few leaves with L Blight in some rows of my potatoes a few days ago this was followed by 2 consecutive Smith Periods  :'(

I've cleared most of the foliage in surrounding rows, but I've left those that are meant to be resistant types  :-\ not sure if they may harbour spores?
I have a another couple of patches of potatoes fairly close and as yet no sign, although I not very hopfull. Many of these are varieties grown from TPS. I hope some will have either produced berries or small tubers which I can grow next year. Though some are only just starting to flower so not looking too good for them. I'll keep a close eye and first sign they will have to go.

For a measure of blight resistance I'm growing Sarpo Mira and I'm trying these varieties alongside Sarpo Kifli, Toluca and Tuskar. Also several of Tom W TPS varieties  I'm growing, including Skagit Magic are reported to have resistance to L Blight but we have different strains over here, so...

I'm hopeful some will make it and also some berries from crosses of resistant potato.

No sign on my tomatoes yet.

I've sprayed my outdoor tomatoes with Serenade, an organic fungicide. first time I've used it and perhaps a bit too late.

I have had about 12 Gardeners delight, 5 Ailsa Craig and 2 Sungold tomatos,  Everything else is green though a few are just starting to blush up.  Once they start I always leave a ripe one in the hope it gives the others the right idea.  One year I even tied bananas and apples on the tomato plants to try and speed things on.

So no losetto so far.   Though at least now it has fruit the branches have stopped theirr bid to take over the lottie.

Quite a few on our site have had blight and they have stripped their Toms from the plants, the Italian's that are sprayed with bright blue stuff seem to be OK.  :-\
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.
