A snap shot of the garden
« on: May 03, 2011, 10:57:32 »
Here is a quick snap shot of the garden today.
Things are coming along and the wait for the frost tonight has been anticipated.

Hopefully things will grow and give back what I have given them. ;)

Got them back now to put some tread on them

Oh you've got honeywort like i have! (http://i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad68/landimad/garden/09%2005%202011/bluedelphinium.jpg), it's pretty isn't it? I let it self seed every year and it always comes back.
Beautiful garden.

Hi,
Just to say, I do not think that it is Honeywort in the garden antipodes, and the Clematis is a old favourite called Nelly Moser Poppie1.
All the plants are now starting to pick up after the bit of rain we had, and now the heavy rain is just starting over this way as we are on the bottom edge of this front.
Peas are just starting to flower, Gooseberries are fruiting up, cabbages are good and caulis are now in the bed and growing well. Carrots are not to bad and waiting to see if we get a good crop of broadies too. Runners are still not showing in the ground so have done some more in pots to see if they catch up.
Comfrey has had another cut and the bees have been buzzing round to see if there is any more pollen to take. Birds are keeping the bugs down for the best part, and the Hosta is growing away in its new home.
I shall have to split this in the autumn as it has grown so well. Irises will be coming out of the old position and split to go into the front garden. I have to do something there as it looks a mess and in need of TLC. I have potted on the Lupins into bigger pots and await their growth so as to put them into part of the border. Some will be going up for sale with the many other plants that cannot fit into the garden.
Roses are in bloom and need a bit of Toprose to help them with their blackspot.
Actindia has still to recover from the frost damage back along, but hopefully will recover.
Soon be ready to lift a crop of baby beetroot's and enjoy them in a salad.
Leeks are not to bad and will be thinned out when they get a bit bigger.
Outside toms are in flower and we shall see if they come good and not fall to the dreaded b**t.
Not saying as do not want to hex myself this year.
Thyme and Mint are not so good at the moment, not sure what is wrong, but will keep an eye on them.
More photos to follow when get a break in the rain.

Hi,
Just to say, I do not think that it is Honeywort in the garden antipodes,

Sorry I picked the wrong photo! The plant that is about a foot tall, with drooping purple flowers, sort of bell shaped and light green leaves.

Mine self seeds and I love the flowers, as do the insects!

Thankyou so much for posting a pic of the Cerinthe/hondywort.  I have a friend with one and having being trying to identify it.

Is it self fertile she only has the one.  She thought it had died in the winter, so presume it is now a seedlling.

Antipodes,
I think the drooping plants in the background are the Evening primrose not the honeywort that you describe.

Well, here we are again.

Another day of slogging away keeping the weeds down and more plants put in.
At the last count there were 210 plants put in today.
These were African Marigolds, French marigolds, Asters, Kochias, Nasturtiums, and dug up Bearded Iris to make room.

Hopefully these will fill out with the rain that is forecast tonight.

Another day off and loads more plants in.
Finally finished the border and have put in about 400 plants to bulk out the border.
Also put out some more salads ready for chomping on when they are bigger.

We had a big old ants nest in the cold frame, so that has been stripped for the birds to get at the eggs.
The roses are coming into their own now and if we could give you a scent of what is given off, you would have sweet smelling aromas coming out of the screen.
Not sure if the broad beans are supposed to be this small, but they are in flower and the bees want more of this nectar.
Runners are up and ready to climb.
Had some carrots and pots for tea with a bit of pork. Sage is going down well with this too.

Its is Sunday and I have been busy weeding the garden.
Here is a video of the garden before I weeded it.

And here are some snaps of it when I have been half way round it.

This includes one of my cabbages to which we found more than happy to eat with our Sunday lunch.

Another day to which I have had a bit of time to spare.
Yet again I have moved stuff around to see how things do.
Gone are the peas and in their place I have put some leeks.
Cabbages are looking good and taste even better.
Onions are growing away as are the tomatoes that my daughter has sown for me.
The border is going great guns with all the plants moving along and starting to bush up with a few flowers in there too.

Weekend here and plenty to do.
Grass to cut, veg to pick, dead heading.
http://s922.photobucket.com/albums/ad68/landimad/garden/23%2007%202011/

Also started a new project, My fish tank is up and running with no lid to go on. Still with the amount of wood there will be a top. Better get on and build it or no fish to go into it.

Here is yesterdays photos for you all to look over.
I have had some cracking cabbages Golden Acre and now we move onto the Greyhound.
Leeks are coming along nicely, Toms are fruiting up with a few reds to be picked.
Lettuce are browning off and therefore will be eaten quickly as I do not want to lose them. So blanch a few to get a good hot salad maybe.
Onions and caulis are getting bigger.
Runners are in flower and we had our first few pods today.
Flowers and shrubs are growing away with lots of flowers and insects to drink the nectar.

Finally I am on nights at the moment so I shall be in and out at strange times.
