Raspberry canes not fruiting
« on: July 26, 2011, 07:24:15 »
I put in six new raspberry canes last Autumn.  To date they haven't shown any fruit.

Would this be normal behaviour with canes of this age?

Are they Autumn fruiting Or Spring fruiting?
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

If they are autumn fruiting..depending of variety some are flowering now or are just about to do so.
Summer fruiting variety would propably give the first year a miss as the new growt that has come up this year will fruit for you next summer.
So patience...you WILL get your raspberries..they just need to establish themselves and put good growth on first. ;)
Do you remember the name of the variety?

I don't remember the name of the variety.  They are autumn fruiting and of the canes I planted I see that one cane has produced a small cluster of 4 berries, the other plants are bare of any fruit.
They have produced plenty of growth but as I say, only 4 berries so far.

Well..I would put this years lack of berries down to their trying to get establish themselves first.
It may well be that those plants/roots were not quite 'strong' enought to support fruiting yet.
But as your plants have produced plenty of growth..that is certainly very good sign for things to come . Get some buckets ready for abundant crop next year.. ;D ;)
