sweetcorn ripening whens the best time to pick
« on: July 25, 2011, 19:17:05 »
Hello all
So for the first year ever i have a big crop of sweetcorn rather than a couple of cobs from ten straggly plants and so this year im wondering when the best time is to pick them.

For instance i see three stages 1. green covering with brownish tasels
2. brownish tasels and covering
3 crispy

I cant tell whether its best to pick them at 1 or wait for 2.
What do our seasoned sweetcorn harvesters do?

Hi Sun, they should be ripe when the tassles are crispy brown, but just peel back and dig your fingernail into the cob, you'll get the milky stuff coming out, thats ready.   ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.
