i would love to join in but have no saved seeds only common every day stuff  peas beans   etc  no exciting varietys :'(but could buy some unusal seeds  ;D to start off or is this not allowed classed as cheating?count me in if acceptable    (   count me out if not  )ta

Buying enough for everyone kind of defeats the purpose of the circle  :-\
Don’t let fancy names put you off having a go; learning, sharing and taking part are important too  :)

What variety of peas and beans are you growing? Have you got any non F1 tomatoes, peppers, chillies or aubergine on the go you could isolate/bag, any flowering herbs or plants with edible flowers? Have your potatoes got any berries to be nurtured till ripe? What about a pumpkin, squash, courgette or a cucumber plant you could bag and pollinate?

Ophi your beans and tomato sound ideal, welcome aboard  ;D

Sounds good 1066, yep  :)

Goodlife thanks for the offer. I realised some had missed out on joining the other group by the amount of people still asking to join. I think at this late date it will be a smaller group,  although it looks like it is taking shape nicely. I'll put you on the reserve list if I may  ;D

Thank you.  I will keep an eye on the Burgundy Red potatoes that are isolated and seem to have nice little pods forming  ;)

Soooo exciting, lovely selection guys  :)

Hector you have plenty of time. I've copied this form the other Seed Circle thread;
"Basics; Each person in the group chooses and grows 2 (more if you wish) Heritage or open pollinated vegetables for seed (preferably seeds interesting and new to the circle).  Grow and harvest enough seeds for all the members of the group. Once they are really dry divide the seeds into individual portions, send to a central point which is then shared between everyone. You will need to provide a suitable return envelope and postage.

To take part you will also need to be an active and participating member of A4A during this period. Going on this year’s Circle, I think sending seeds  in by 30th November will work, allows enough time for most varieties of seeds to be harvested, dried and posted, so parcels can be made up for the beginning of December and sent in time for Christmas."

Forgot to say, seeds need to be individually portioned up, last year some of us used the little plastic zippy bags or used the dinner money type brown envelopes. Others were far more creative making their own designs, I'll post some links when I find them. Each individual packet of seeds needs to be labelled with the seed variety/name, also useful to add is your name, date and any other info you think relevant. I'll pm my address nearer the time.

Any volunteers for helping to do a google doc to catalogue and describe the varieties being grown?

My climbing beans are only just starting; I picked the first batch this week. I should have seed by November though, especially if it continues to rain. Some of them are looking rather wilted.

I have just packeted lettuce Brune d'hiver for the other seed circle and have seeds left for people here in the extra circle.  Will put in little seed packets once I know the numbers required.

I have also fermented a lot seeds of a very early tomato from Alaska and should have enough seeds for both circles.

Yes, and I will also upload a little article I wrote about how to fold your own paper seed envelopes, if this would be useful.  (Pm to follow).

Missed this, Yes lovely if you want to join, but no need to if you are happy being in the other circle. I'll leave it to you  :)

It would be nice to have a couple more newcomers too as for me, a large part of what this is all about is joining in with others, enjoying the sharing, and having the benefit of all levels of experience.
Had a go at saving some Herbs, squash, courgette, edible flowers, salad etc... last call, if there is anyone left wanting to join, now is the time  :)

Sorry to double post but thought this should be here too  :)

"Thought I'd re-post this (from last years thread) maybe of interest...although chances are I’m going to use little plastic zippy bags and cut out printed labels or the little brown paper dinner money envelopes. I did love the the home made folded ones though, really clever  :)

"If anyone is looking for inspiration to make their own seed packets have a look at this lovely blog http://hayefield.com/2008/08/07/origami-for-seed-savers/
and another variation here, thank you ICPS Seed Bank for this guide http://www.carnivorousplants.org/seedbank/Envelope.htm

There are lots of sites offering templates which can be printed and cut out. These envelopes will need a bit of glue though
